Becoming an egg donor can be an exciting and fulfilling experience. An egg donor is a wonderful person who donates some of their eggs to a person or couple in need, called the intended parent(s), while being financially compensated for their time, effort, and commitment. As an international egg donor, you also have a positive impact on a family’s life, but you also have the opportunity to travel to a fantastic destination for 1 to 2 weeks to complete the donation. International egg donors are needed so that the donation can take place in a location where regulations and clinic services meet the needs of the intended parent(s). Becoming an international egg donor is a selfless act that requires a number of character qualities in addition to medical and physical prerequisites. Let’s take a closer look at what these characteristics are and why they’re important.
You have a heart of gold!
Having a heart of gold is an admirable trait. Although the financial compensation is rewarding and the opportunity to explore new cities is exciting, egg donors should have a strong sense of generosity. The wonderful gift of life should be your primary motivation for donating your eggs, so that you can return home fulfilled and empowered!
You’re a team player!
International egg donors often complete their cycles in small groups, so you’ll meet like-minded people and make friends for life! This means you’ll share this unique egg donation experience together and have travel buddies to explore the new city with. We value egg donors who excel at teamwork, cleanliness, and respect. You’ll return home with precious memories and new connections.
You’re a glass-half-full kind of gal!
As exciting as traveling can be, it can also be stressful and unpredictable, so it’s important that you can handle unexpected changes or delays. International egg donors face additional stresses, such as airline delays, homesickness, jet lag, etc. An ideal international egg donor should approach the journey with an optimistic attitude!
You’re a hard ‘egg’ to crack!
Being an egg donor isn’t for everyone, as you’ll need to have blood drawn and self-administer injectable medications. Most of our first-time donors report that the needles weren’t nearly as scary as they expected, and they really appreciate the help from the Emerald team! At Emerald, you’ll be supported throughout with medication videos, have access to your coordinator, and receive guidance from our medical director, a physician.
You’re a real go-getter!
The process of becoming and being an egg donor requires dedication and determination. You should be able to handle administrative tasks such as attending screening appointments, filling out paperwork, and participating in visa interviews. You must also be able to follow directions from the Emerald team or network clinic, such as medication protocols and instructions. Our teams enjoy dealing with donors who respond to messages and tend to appointments in a timely manner.
You’re cool as a cucumber!
There are hormones involved that can cause mood swings, similar to PMS. To top it all off, you’re in a new country with exciting new people doing something meaningful, which can be overwhelming. This requires a certain amount of maturity to recognize where your emotions are coming from and when you should take time out to go for a walk, take a nap, read a book, or watch a movie.
You have the spirit of adventure!
It’s so exciting to travel to a new or favorite destination for your egg donation program. There is so much to see, do, taste, and experience, but in the end, it’s what you make of it. International egg donors should love to travel and possess the spirit of adventure. At Emerald, one of our amazing donor coordinators will accompany you on your trip and is always happy to take you sightseeing or show you some local gems. If she can’t accompany you due to meetings or commitments, you’ll need to be confident enough to do things on your own (or with your fellow donors). Of course, your donor coordinator will always provide you with a guidebook, tips, and safety information.
If you have these wonderful qualities, you should consider becoming an egg donor. It’s a win-win situation where you can make a difference in someone else’s life while benefiting yourself. At Emerald Donors, we run an international program that we’re very proud of. We offer programs in amazing destinations such as New York, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Spain, Cyprus, and Malaysia, just to name a few. To ensure that our egg donors have the best possible experience, we exclusively collaborate with international clinics and egg banks that meet the highest standards. In addition, we’re one of the few agencies that has a physician on staff to ensure safe and vetted programs.
